THE FAST AND THE GRIMEY

LOGLINE

When her nineteen-year-old brother wrecks a street-racing crew’s car and is handed a sixty-day, eighty-five-thousand-dollar debt, a Grady ER nurse puts on a black helmet and starts racing Atlanta’s Top Ten as a masked driver called Ghost — climbing a list her dead father once owned, falling for the man who runs the city, and uncovering that the debt, the wreck and her father’s death were never what she was told.

SYNOPSIS

DEJA WRIGHT, 26, is a trauma nurse at Grady Memorial by day. By night she is GHOST — black Charger, black helmet, black visor, no crew, no decals — winning crypto-escrow street races on the industrial roads of southwest Atlanta and disappearing before the helicopter arrives. Nobody knows who Ghost is. The internet decides Ghost is a legend before Ghost has won three races.

She’s racing because her brother MALIK, 19, wrecked a borrowed car and DARNELL — pleasant face, dangerous eyes — showed up at her door claiming forty thousand in cash was inside it. Eighty-five thousand, sixty days, and he’s noticed her hospital badge. Deja goes to the one man she hasn’t spoken to in twelve years: her uncle RAY WRIGHT, who runs the brick performance shop every faction in the city passes through, and who keeps a photo on the wall she has never seen — MARCUS “MARS” WRIGHT, ATLANTA #1, 2014. Her father wasn’t somebody who raced. He was the man everybody came to Atlanta to beat, and he died doing it.

Atlanta’s racing world is three factions — Muscle, JDM, Exotic — and a Top Ten nobody owns. DEMETRIOUS CARTER, 32, holds the city together like a mayor who never ran for office, paying for funerals and settling disputes, while PRIME, 34, streams the takeovers and argues that attention is worth more than respect. When Demetrious crashes his Corvette and wakes up in Deja’s trauma bay, the chemistry is immediate and irritating — and he is the man whose people want eighty-five thousand from her brother. She takes the dinner. She doesn’t tell him about the helmet.

Ghost climbs: Boone at #10, Toro at #8, a loss to the Exotic queen BLANCA VEGA that teaches her what fear is costing her, a challenge from JDM’s KAI. The car has her father’s intake and cam profile in it. The internet catches a painted nail under a torn glove. Her brother figures out who she is and tells her their mother didn’t leave him to her — she left them to each other. A gun goes off at a gas station. An old racer named TREYSON hears Marcus’s motor in the exhaust note. And an unknown number sends Deja footage of her father’s last race from an angle she has never seen, with three words: ASK DEMETRIOUS. He was the lookout. He said the road was clear.

Prime unmasks Ghost in front of all three factions, fractures the city, and puts a hundred thousand dollars on the line for the #1 spot — because the forty thousand was never real, Malik was leverage, and what Prime always wanted was Ray’s credibility. In the final race Deja drives with Kai’s line, Blanca’s patience and Ray’s launch, refuses to lift the way her father never lifted — then brakes three hundred feet from the finish, drives back into the fire, and pulls Prime out of a burning car. “I can’t let you die for money.” No contest. Weeks later, at a small restaurant, Demetrious asks if the seat is taken. Across town, a black Charger with a black helmet rolls to the line. It isn’t her.

DEJA WRIGHT / "GHOST"

CHARACTER PROFILE

Black female, 26. Registered nurse in the Grady Memorial trauma bay — precise, calm, needed — and, after midnight, the masked driver Atlanta’s racing scene calls Ghost. Sharp eyes, controlled breathing, does not celebrate, does not get out of the car. Raised her little brother after their mother Angela died four years ago (“No. I kept him alive.”). Has not spoken to her uncle in twelve years and buried her father’s racing life because her mother wanted it buried.

The role runs two registers in one body: the nurse who talks to injured men like they’re children who won’t listen, and the racer who says nothing behind a visor. Her engine is that she needs somebody to need her — Keisha names it, Malik names it, and Demetrious names it in bed — and the season is her learning to stop turning love into a job. Physically demanding: driving inserts, a shoulder injury she carries into her shifts, a fistfight with a jammed car door in a fire. Must be believable pulling a chest-tube tray and shifting a Hellcat-class Charger.

Signature line: “I can’t let you die for money.”

Featured role · THE KING OF THE CITY — LOVE INTEREST

DEMETRIOUS CARTER

CHARACTER PROFILE

Black male, 32. Moves through Muscle, JDM and Exotic like a mayor who never ran for office. Pays for funerals, sends cars to Ray’s when drivers are short, wants a place for these kids to race where nobody catches a bullet. His people run the debt on Malik. His philosophy is “showing up is power” — and, as Deja tells him, everybody in his family owes him something. Father left; brother left as soon as he didn’t need him.

He knew Marcus Wright. He was the lookout the night Marcus died and said the road was clear. He recognizes Deja inside Ghost before anyone else — not from surveillance, but because he sees Marcus’s cut in her driving — and quietly protects her, which is the crack Prime uses to break the city. Ends the season with no crew, no entourage, asking if a seat is taken. Charm, weight, and a real capacity for guilt.

Signature line: “Respect is money.”

Featured role · THE ANTAGONIST — #1 ON THE TEN

PRIME

CHARACTER PROFILE

Black male, 34. The city’s #1 driver and its loudest streamer — stands on car roofs at intersection takeovers with thirty-one thousand watching live. “People don’t follow fast anymore. They follow famous.” He is not a monster; he is right about attention and wrong about people. Runs human intelligence, not magic: gas-station security video, a mechanic who recognizes Ray’s rear setup, a key tag on a hospital counter.

The forty thousand was his invention — Malik was leverage to get Ray’s name, because Ray’s credibility is what makes the rules legitimate and Prime wants to write the rules. He unmasks Ghost with a microphone in front of three factions (Ep 126), fractures the city, and races her for a hundred thousand. Flips, burns, and is pulled from the wreck by the woman he humiliated. “You hate me. GO WIN!” Needs swagger the audience half-agrees with.

Signature line: “Attention takes fifteen seconds.”

RAY WRIGHT

CHARACTER PROFILE

Black male, 55. Owns Ray’s Performance, an old brick shop with no neon and a faded sign that every faction in Atlanta passes through; certifies builds and settles disputes, which is why Muscle, JDM and Exotic all trust him and why Prime wants his name. Twelve years since he’s seen his niece, and his hello is “Well, damn.” Built his brother Marcus’s car in 2014 and helped him stage the race that killed him.

He builds Deja’s Charger with Marcus’s intake design and cam profile inside it and doesn’t tell her. He is the show’s teacher — “first half you raced the road, second half you raced him” — and the keeper of the story she was told wrong. “If we’re gonna do something stupid, we’re gonna do it correctly.” Gruff, exact, and carrying twelve years of guilt he only puts down in Ep 125.

MALIK WRIGHT

CHARACTER PROFILE

Black male, 19. Turns up at Deja’s door with a split lip and blood on his hoodie: he wrecked a borrowed car and swears there was no money in it. She doesn’t believe him. He is telling the truth. Pure natural talent behind the wheel of an old turbo Civic, and the first person to figure out that his sister is Ghost — “Nobody. I know my sister.” Delivers the season’s central argument in Ep 117: their mother didn’t leave him to her, she left them to each other.

Nearly dies at a gas station when old trash talk turns into a gunshot, and calls Deja with the two words she can never resist: “I need you.” Ends the season working under a car at Ray’s, being reminded hourly what he owes, and allowed for once to not know what he wants to do with his life.

BLANCA (CONT’D)
Still collecting broken people?

DEMETRIOUS
Still collecting expensive cars?

BLANCA
Mine appreciate better.

She shows Ghost’s page.

BLANCA (CONT’D)
I want her.

DEMETRIOUS
No.

Blanca raises an eyebrow.

BLANCA
That’s interesting.

DEMETRIOUS
She’s not ready for you.

BLANCA
Then I’ll find out fast.

She posts: BLANCA #3 VS GHOST #8 — $20K EACH — 48 HOURS.
BLANCA (CONT’D)
Why do you care?

Demetrious doesn’t answer.

CUT TO BLACK.

EXT. CLOSED INDUSTRIAL PARK – NIGHT

All three factions are present. Crypto pot: $40,000 LOCKED.

Ghost’s Charger looks almost blue-collar beside Blanca’s
McLaren.

BLANCA
You brought a Dodge to my race?

GHOST
You got my coins?

The crowd erupts. Blanca smiles.

BLANCA
Oh, I like you.

GREEN. Ghost launches better. Blanca waits, then the McLaren
comes alive. Ghost pushes too hard and misses a line.

Blanca wins by two cars.

EXT. FINISH AREA – MOMENTS LATER

BLANCA
You fast.

Ghost says nothing.

BLANCA (CONT’D)
But you’re scared.

GHOST
Of you?

BLANCA
No.

She points toward the Charger.

BLANCA (CONT’D)
Of whatever happens when you stop
controlling that thing.

BLANCA (CONT’D)
Fast doesn’t mean shit if fear’s
driving.
BLANCA (CONT’D)
Every time somebody beats you, you
ask the car for more. You need
less.

GHOST
Less what?

BLANCA
Fear.

Blanca taps Ghost’s helmet.

BLANCA (CONT’D)
And that helmet? You think you wear
it so nobody knows who you are?

Blanca walks away before Deja can answer.

She walks away.

Ghost’s phone: STAKE RELEASED TO OPPONENT — $20,000.

CUT TO BLACK.

KAI

CHARACTER PROFILE

Asian-American male, late 20s. Leans against an immaculate Supra under an underpass and needles the silent driver in the Charger: “You muscle people always late?” Then, after her win: “You drive that Charger wrong. That’s a compliment.” Precision over power — the line Deja borrows in the final race. Challenges Ghost in Ep 119. His silence when Prime accuses Demetrious of protecting Ghost over the rule (Ep 126) hurts Demetrious more than the accusation. Dry, exact, a few scenes that all land.

KAI
You muscle people always late?

Ghost says nothing.

KAI (CONT’D)
Oh. Silent type.

Ghost races a lower-ranked JDM challenger and wins by inches.

PAYOUT RELEASED.

Kai approaches her window.

KAI (CONT’D)
You drive that Charger wrong.
Ghost turns.

KAI (CONT’D)
That’s a compliment.

A black SUV arrives. Demetrious steps out. Ghost sees him and

Why?

She ain’t him.

DEMETRIOUS
I know.

RAY
Do you?

Ray stops working.

TREYSON

Featured role · DEJA'S FATHER — FLASHBACK / VIDEO

MARCUS "MARS" WRIGHT

CHARACTER PROFILE

Black male, 30s in 2014. Atlanta #1 for eleven months. “He was the man everybody came to Atlanta to beat.” Seen only in a wall photo beside a black muscle car, in shaky phone footage of his final race, and in a flash memory teaching Demetrious: “Don’t race where he is. Race where he’s gonna be.” He had daylight to lift and didn’t. Non-speaking apart from the one memory line; a day of driving inserts and a photo shoot. Should resemble the actress cast as Deja.

MONTAGE – DEMETRIOUS’S POV

Deja’s Charger at valet. Her hands at nine and three. Ghost’s
torn glove. Deja’s shoulder injury. The Wright name. Ray’s
shop. Ghost disappearing whenever Deja appears.

INT. DEMETRIOUS’S OFFICE – EARLIER

Darnell shows Demetrious a blurry image of Deja’s Charger.

DARNELL
Could be Ghost.

DEMETRIOUS
That’s nothing.

He pushes the phone away

INT. PRIME’S OFFICE – EARLIER

PRIME
Ray’s shop keeps popping up.

DEMETRIOUS
Ray services half the city.

PRIME
Still —

DEMETRIOUS
Drop it.

INT. DEMETRIOUS’S HOME – PRESENT

Demetrious watches Ghost’s latest race alone. He knows. Has
known.

Prime enters without invitation.

PRIME
Funny thing about Ghost. Everybody
looking for the driver. I’m
starting to think the car’s more
interesting.

A tiny reaction from Demetrious. Prime catches it.
PRIME (CONT’D)
See?

DEMETRIOUS
See what?

PRIME
Nothing.

Prime heads for the door.

PRIME (CONT’D)
Tell Ray I said what’s up.

Later, Demetrious rewinds Ghost performing a specific cut
Marcus used to teach.

FLASH MEMORY — Marcus: “Don’t race where he is. Race where
he’s gonna be.”

Ghost executes the same move.

DEMETRIOUS
Goddamn, Deja.

Now he knows — not from surveillance, but because he
recognizes Marcus inside his daughter.

Phone rings. Prime.

PRIME (PHONE)
Funny thing about Ghost.
Everybody’s looking for the driver.
I’m starting to think the car is

INT. RAY’S PERFORMANCE – NIGHT

Ray. Demetrious. Treyson. Deja. No one wants to begin.

DEJA
Tell me all of it.

RAY
Your father wasn’t supposed to
race.

TREYSON
He already said no.

DEMETRIOUS
Then the money doubled.

RAY
Car had a new setup. Needed
testing.

DEJA
And you let him race?

RAY
I told him not to.
(beat)

RAY (CONT’D)
Then I helped him stage.

DEMETRIOUS
I was lookout. Road was clear.

TREYSON
Other driver crowded Marcus.

RAY
Marcus could’ve lifted.

Deja watches the recovered angle again. Marcus has daylight
to lift. For one terrible beat he hesitates — then stays in
it.

DEJA
He could’ve lifted.

RAY
Yeah.
Silence.

DEJA
But he didn’t.

RAY
Your daddy never lifted.

Deja cries now. No hiding it.

DEJA
So who killed him?

Nobody answers because the answer is suddenly obvious.

DEJA (CONT’D)
Nobody.

DEMETRIOUS
Everybody.
(beat)

DEMETRIOUS (CONT’D)
Including Marcus.

That hurts the most.

DEJA
I needed somebody to hate.

Ray reaches for her. She steps away.

DEJA (CONT’D)
Twelve years.

She walks out alone.
